Going forth by day. The 16 drawings in this book are a small selection from the drawings that I made while thinking about Milco and the person he was. And about his death, and what dying means.
Thoughts that come back to me and have found their way into the drawings: that Milco shone; that his illness was so limiting for him; how one’s life changes its shape; presence without substance; grief.
The title is based on the Egyptian Books of the Dead, which are books with texts and magic spells for the hereafter. The book of these texts is called the book of going forth by day. We sense how precarious life becomes when we lose a loved one. - Derk Thijs
