As part of the Amsterdam Art Gallery Weekend and the exhibition We Can’t Go Back Galerie Onrust presents two limited editions of works by Emma Talbot. The group exhibition We Can’t Go Back is comprised of works in which the tension between beauty and the transitory, and between strength and vulnerability, is heightened while it nonetheless remains elusive at the same time. But We Can't Go Back is also about the times in which we live, with supposed certainties disappearing; when nothing is what it seems and new developments are making us look at the world differently once and for all. As Talbot writes: We can't go back. But we can go forwards. It won't be the same. It could get better.
Emma Talbot constructs multilayered narratives via a range of media such as drawing, painting and sculpture with distinctive elements including flowing lines, light materials, female figures and poetry. She explores human existence as a dreamlike, occasionally oppressive experience somewhere between the conscious and the subconscious, the everyday and the mythical, the present day and the future. Describing the inner landscape of personal thought, emotion and dreaming while addressing prevalent contemporary concerns and setting this self-narrative into a wider narrative. This year Emma was awarded the Max Mara Art Prize for Women, which supports UK-based female artists. Both editions are high quality prints on Hahnemuhle White Velvet paper, and are numbered editions of 25. Though being two very different works both editions are true to Talbots signature style and depict the essence of her work.
